Terumot U’Maasrot Seminar/Shechita Seminar – Thursday Nov. 22
As part of the Torat Chaim Seminars, the Lev boys went to Moshav Nacham (the home of Rav Mori’s in-laws) to pick fresh fruit and learn about the laws of Terumot U’Maasrot first hand. After the fruit-picking, we were treated to the educational vision of witnessing an actual shechita (ritual slaughter) of a sheep. After the shechita was completed (which took but a moment) the Shochet (slaughterer) gave a detailed explanation of the laws of his trade, e.g., inspecting of the lungs, the meaning of “Glatt,”, and many other important Kashrut issues relating to shechita.

Mrs. Penina Taylor of “Jews for Judaism” Speaks in Yeshiva – Thursday, Nov. 29
The yeshiva had the honor of hosting Jerusalem resident, Mrs. Penina Taylor of “Jews for Judaism,” as a guest speaker.  Mrs. Taylor told the yeshiva her incredible story of her return to Judaism from “Messianic Christianity.”  The story was both intriguing and informative.  Mrs. Taylor will return to the yeshiva to present a Seminar on “Anti –Missionaries”.

A Truly Rocking Chanukah Chagigah – Wednesday, Dec. 5
On the second night of Channukah, Lev HaTorah held its annual Channukah fest.  Naftali Abramson and his band kept all the boys on their feet, dancing for hours, as he played many different songs to many varied types of rhythms and musical styles.  Two of Lev HaTorah’s home-school bands made their debut performances at the celebration. Our annual “Tzedakah Auction” followed the dancing and was extremely entertaining. In total, we pledged close to 8,000 shekels towards charity. Later on that night, Naftali Abramson played slower songs and shared words of Torah.  A big yasher koach and thanks to Mr. Lenny Goldstein and family for sponsoring the event in memory of Lenny’s father. “Eyes on the Beit HaMikdash Channukah Trip” Thursday, Dec. 6
Our Chanukah tiyul began with a riveting shacharit (Morning Prayer service) at the Kotel HaKatan.  Rav Simcha Hochbaum, a student of Rav Shlomo Carlebach, led Hallel and dancing by the gates of “Har Habayit,” the Temple Mount.  The day included: A tour of the gates of Har Habayit with Rav Simcha Hochbaum, a tour of the Southern Wall with Hillel Brenner, a journey into Machon HaMikdash (The Temple Institute dedicated towards raising knowledge and awareness of the Holy Temple’s structure and service as well as constructing its vessels for future use), and Maarot Tzidkiayahu (Tzidkiayahu’s cave). By day’s end, our connection to Jerusalem (of yesteryear, the present, and the future) had been greatly strengthened.

“Darkeinu” Shabbaton in Yeshiva – Shabbat Parshat Miketz - Shabbat Channukah
“Darkeinu,” an Israel yeshiva program for students with special needs, joined us for Shabbat Channukah.  The Shabbos was filled with energy and laughter, as we sang, danced, and learned Torah with the Darkeinu students.  We escorted out the Shabbos and our holy guests with a knee-smacking Melavah Malka.  We will always remember the simcha of the Darkeinu boys and the special Shabbos we shared together. We also had the privilege of hosting Rav Benny Eisner for Shabbat, the Talmidim enjoyed his personality and wisdom.
