The realization that technology-based products can
be utilized as a cost effective advertising medium has become an
accepted fact for most successful large companies. Companies such
as Amazon.com and Lands' End have harnessed the power of the internet
and email marketing to increase sales. How? They periodically send
out email promotions to their customer base to inform them of special
promotions. A few years ago, Sears ceased publication of its famous
catalog, and many other firms have followed suit. They are using
technology today to place their catalogs on the Internet. Radio
Shack and Giant Foods have recently placed their weekly circulars
online for customers to refer for their weekly savings. Why are
they doing this? Successful technology-based solutions can drive
traffic to traditional brick and mortar businesses and is not restricted
to online shopping.
