Classes in Action
History
On Thursday, March 29th, the 9th grade honors class held a symposium on the Crusades. Students presented information representing four points of view about the first three Crusades. Students presented perspectives from the Arab Muslim, Palestinian Jews, European Crusaders, and Byzantine view of Crusade History. Bob Cantor
Honors History 10 recently conducted the Trial of Napoleon Bonaparte in an attempt to determine whether Napoleon and his rule was good for France. The case was tried before the Special Court under the auspices of the Congress of Vienna before Judges Matt Marcus and Sophie Solomon. Zach Wildhorn and Daniel Saltzberg led the prosecution team with Jeremy Hiken for the defense. Testifying in his own defense was the Defendant Bonaparte (Sam Auerbach). The judges are currently deliberating the verdict. Mark Hotz

Psychology
Students will be conducting experiential activities that relate to social psychology, including spending 2-3 hours blindfolded with a partner, attempting to be positive for an entire day, exploring norms of touching in our culture, examining their own group activities and the dynamic of each, and experiencing a modified vision quest based on internal analysis. Beyond the Classroom
of Doors & Keys, an exhibit at the Norman & Sarah Brown Art Gallery at the Park Heights Jewish Community Center opened last Sunday to rave reviews from the many students and faculty in attendance. The exhibit runs until June 10th and prominently features Cardin student artists Hannah Silverman ’07, Laura Unger ’07, Rebecca Weinstein ’08 and Katie Mikhalnyuk ‘08. Among the featured professional artists is Jean-Pierre Weill, father of Nadav Klein ’08 and Celia Yitzhak, aunt of Mia Diamant-Cohen ’07 and Yoella Diamant-Cohen ’10.

On Sunday, March 18, we held Passover University for prospective students and the class of 2010.

Scholarships
The Central Scholarship Bureau will again be offering interest free loans for qualified students. Through this program, students have the opportunity to receive up to $10,000 per year in totally interest-free funding. No application or loan origination fees are charged to students or families at any time. SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES
Johns Hopkins University will be offering an engineering program this summer for rising high school juniors, seniors, and incoming college freshmen entitled “What is Engineering”. The program will be offered at 3 sites in Maryland: JHU Homewood campus, JHU Montgomery Campus, and Howard County Community College. The program is intended for students to study engineering concepts through lectures, hands-on lab experiments, and team projects. Students will have the ability to earn 3 transferable credits from Johns Hopkins. The course will take place from July 9th to August 3rd, 9 am-3 pm, Monday through Friday. The Cardin School’s annual Grandparents’ Day will be held on Friday, April 27 beginning at 8:15 a.m. This is a wonderful opportunity for our grandparents to discover Cardin as we welcome them into our community. We hope they will join us for a morning of class visiting and special programming.
